This report is based on a thorough examination and analysis of the actions taken by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip during the large-scale military campaign launched in October 2023. It analyzes data and maps issued by the Israeli military, field reports, and internal displacement movements in Gaza. It also incorporates information from official sources, international institutions, and local NGOs operating in Gaza.
The Gaza Strip is a narrow coastal strip covering 365 square kilometers, bordered by Israel, Egypt, and the Mediterranean Sea. With a population of approximately 2.2 million, it is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. On September 11, 2005, the Israeli army unilaterally withdrew from Gaza. Since then, the territory, governed by Hamas, has witnessed repeated large-scale military operations, resulting in tens of thousands of civilian casualties and widespread destruction of infrastructure. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a large-scale military attack on Israeli forces in the Gaza Envelope area. In response, Israeli forces launched a massive attack on Gaza, dubbed "Operation Iron Swords." This operation, considered the most violent in Gaza's history, led to the displacement of nearly two million Palestinians from their homes. Hundreds of thousands were prevented from returning to their original areas of displacement, and movement between northern and southern Gaza has been severely restricted.
